A bombardment on Saturday caused a fire in a fuel depot in Russia, near the border with Ukraine, announced the governor of the Belgorod region, which has been under fire for the past few days.
“They bombard us again. A shell hit an oil depot,” Russian Governor Viacheslav Gladkov said. Firefighters are battling the flames, but “there is no risk to the population,” he added.
The Russian agency TASS indicated that the deposit was in the town of Razumnoie-71, near the city of Belgorod, capital of the homonymous region.
Russia last week reported a “significant increase” in Ukrainian attacks on several border regions, including Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk.
A Belgorod power station was hit by Ukrainian shelling on Friday, leading to power outages, according to the local governor.
Attacks on an ammunition depot and a residential building were also reported on Thursday, and another shelling on Monday killed a 74-year-old woman in the city of Chebekino in the same region.
