An unprecedented and claimed step
The appointment of Moura is an unprecedented step in the Cuban volleyball – although not in the sport of the island – that was claimed by experts and fans of a sport that Cuba came to lead worldwide and Olympic, and that has come in frank setback in the last two decades.
The Brazilian has a remarkable record that includes golds in the 2005 and 2007 youth World Cup EFE.
To begin his work, the new coach is expected to join the team in Colima, Mexico, where the North -American Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup will take place, from August 3 to 10.
The FCV stressed its intention to “continue evaluating formulas that pay taxes” of Cuban sport and thanked the IVFB, for “its contribution”, as well as “the disposition and optimism” demonstrated by Professor Moura.
“We are sure that their knowledge, endorsed by the conquest of youth, cadets and clubs, will leave the balances that we have proposed,” the island federation estimated.
The female team of Cuba – which managed to link three Olympic scepters between Barcelona 92 and Sydney 2000 – is currently a practically youth team, with players who have barely fieled in level leagues.
Moura will then have the arduous task of raising the competitive power of the Cubans with their knowledge and methodologies.
This Friday, the sub-23 team of the island-whose rows are several of the members of the major selection-fell to Mexico in the discussion of the bronze in the Pan American Cup of the category, reported Hit.
The Antillanas gave to the Aztecs in five partial (25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-11), with which they were out of the podium after dominating their elimination group undefeated and being defeated by Canada in the semifinals, also in five sets.
