In this sense, he asserted that he would not give details about his participation in the coup d’états, however; When asked about any successful coup plans, Bolton referred to Venezuela.
«I wrote about Venezuela in a book, but it turned out not to be successful. Not that we (the US) had much to do with it, but I saw what it takes for an opposition to try to unseat an illegally elected president and they failed,” the former US adviser said.
In 2019, Bolton publicly supported the right-winger Juan Guaido for the military to back his effort to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro.

Russia asks to investigate Bolton
Following the former Security Advisor’s statements to CNN, the Russian Foreign Ministry urged international organizations to investigate Bolton’s participation in the organization of coups.
