Lawyer Celso Vilardi (photo), who is part of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s defense in the trial of the coup plot, evaluated This Wednesday (10) that the vote of Minister Luiz Fux of the Federal Supreme Court accepted the arguments of the defense.
The minister voted for the acquittal of former President Jair Bolsonaro for all crimes pointed out by the prosecution of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). The agency wanted the ex-president to convict the crimes of armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup, damage qualified by violence and serious threat and deterioration of listed heritage.
For Vilardi, the minister’s vote was “absolutely technical” and approached the evidence in an exhaustively. He stressed that “he welcomed the full defense thesis.”
Fux understood that the acts performed by Bolsonaro, when he was in the presidency of the Republic, cannot be understood as crimes. According to the minister, Bolsonaro only considered measures and “nothing happened.”
The minister also accepted the allegation of curtailment of defense presented by the lawyers of the defendants of the criminal action and voted for the annulment of the process.
Despite the minister’s understanding, the score for Bolsonaro’s conviction is 2 votes to 1. The votes for the conviction were delivered yesterday by the ministers Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the criminal action, and Flávio Dino.
The trial will be resumed on Thursday (11) at 14h. The votes of Minister Cármen Lúcia and Cristiano Zanin are missing.
