Former president Jair Bolsonaro received a visit from the former first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, this Sunday afternoon (23), at the Federal Police Superintendence of the Federal District, where he has been preventively detained since Saturday (22). Television images from the CNN network captured the former president taking Michelle Bolsonaro to the exit of the building where he is in custody.
THE visit was authorized by the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes.
Earlier, on her social network, Michelle Bolsonaro told the former president’s supporters to continue praying. “God has not lost control of anything. He reigns. His throne is founded on justice and judgment”, he wrote in the publication.
Trip to Ceará
Michelle Bolsonaro was in Ceará at a Liberal Party (PL) event when she learned of the preventive arrest of her husband, Jair Bolsonaro. She returned to the federal capital on Saturday afternoon, after suspending her work schedule in the northeastern state.
On social media, the former first lady reported that the couple’s daughter would be impacted by the events: “I asked him not to give up on Laura. I asked him not to give up on us and for him to remain firm, because I will be here beside him, together with you, who are standing up praying, interceding so that everything can be resolved.”
Michelle Bolsonaro criticized minister Alexandre de Moraes, claiming that he “acts with symbolism” when ordering her husband’s detention on the 22nd, in reference to number 22 of. Liberal Party and also the fine of R$22.9 million imposed on the party, for bad faith litigation, following a request to annul votes in the second round of the presidential contest, in 2022.
Preventive detention
Bolsonaro was preventively arrested by the Federal Police (PF), this Saturday, following Moraes’ order. In the decision, the STF minister cited possible risk of escape in the face of Bolsonaro’s attempt to violate the electronic ankle monitor and the vigil called by his son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, near the house where the former president was under house arrest, which could make it easier for him to leave the place.
On Friday (21), the day before his arrest, the former president used welding to try to open the electronic ankle bracelet, which generated an alert to the State Secretariat for Penitentiary Administration of the Federal District (Seap), responsible for monitoring the equipment. THE defense argues that, due to the interaction of medicines, Bolsonaro presented confusion and paranoia. And he adds that he collaborated with changing the equipment, and there was no attempt to escape.
Conviction
Sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison in the coup plot, Bolsonaro and the other defendants could have their sentences carried out in the coming weeks.
Last week, the First Panel of the Court rejected the so-called embargoes for declaration by the former president and six other defendants to reverse the convictions and avoid the execution of sentences in a closed regime.
