The former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro said this Monday that he regrets “what happened on the 8th”, in his first reference to the attack on the three powers in Brasilia by his followers, and admitted that he made “missteps” in his government.
He did so in a video filmed in Orlando, United States, where he has been since before the end of his term, and published by the Brazilian press.
“I regret what happened on the 8th, something incredible, but in my government people learned what politics is, they learned about the powers, they began to value freedom,” he stated in the video published on the Brazilian news portal Metropoles and replicated by other media.
“I spoke to some about freedom and they told me that it was like the sun, that it rises every day, but it is not like that; we believe in Brazil,” added.
Bolsonaro breaks his silence and says that he is committing slips in his government
Bolsonaro also mentioned the terrorist attacks that took place in Brasília on the last day 8 and classified the episode as “unbelievable”.

At the door of the house where he is staying in the city in the state of Florida, Bolsonaro decided to speak to his supporters, while they filmed it.
He admitted that he made “mistakes” and added, “In four years, every day was Monday. Are there some holes? Of course there are. We make some mistakes at home, let alone in government. But at home we know who is responsible. It’s always us, the husbands.”
His supporters nodded and commented: “Nobody is perfect.”
Also, Bolsonaro highlighted measures he took during his government, such as easing the regulation on the possession of firearms, and said that with him “unemployment (was) down there” and the “economy going up.”
Bolsonaro traveled to the United States on December 30, 2022, before the end of his term, thus avoiding having to pass the presidential sash to his successor Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on January 1.
