CDMX, Mexico.- Followers of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro have assaulted the Brazilian Congress, the headquarters of the Presidency and the Supreme Court, in Brasilia to request a military intervention and overthrow the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
In the images that transcend the South American giant, it can be seen how hundreds of people have managed to break the security cordons and break through. Several of them have reached the roof and gardens. The glass doors and windows are seen broken and with pieces of glass on the floor.
The images broadcast by international television stations show numerous demonstrators, mostly dressed in yellow and green T-shirts, and flags of Brazil.
The mobs have reached the buildings of the three powers: the National Congress (seat of legislative power), the Planalto Palace (seat of the executive) and the seat of the Federal Supreme Court.
The serious disturbance occurs a few days after the president-elect, Lula da Silva, took office.
Lula is currently traveling in the city of Araraquara, in Sao Paulo. While former President Bolsonaro remains in the US, since last December 30.
As published by the media 20 minutes, Bolsonaro’s supporters have attacked some vehicles of the Legislative Police, which provides security to Congress, and have destroyed the protection barriers. Some have attacked police forces with sticks.
The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, has condemned the events through a message on Twitter: “This absurd attempt to impose the will by force will not prevail.
On the other hand, some international politicians have condemned the event in their networks and have given their support to Lula. Chilean President Gabriel Boric wrote: “Unpresentable attack on the three powers of the Brazilian State by Bolsonarists. The Brazilian government has our full support in the face of this cowardly and vile attack on democracy.”
