Bolivian tennis player Santiago Lora became double champion of the Arequipa Open, a tournament that is part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors that ended on Saturday in Peru, by winning the under-18 singles and doubles titles.
For a week the national tennis player, like other Bolivian representatives, were part of the contest.
Lora was one of the favorites of the singles competition as he was the third seed.
In the first round he beat the local Mariano Salinas (a double 6-0), in the round of 16 he beat the Brazilian Felipe Mamede: 6-3, 2-6 and 7-6 (4), in the quarterfinals he defeated the Peruvian Rodrigo Varillas (6 -2 and 6-4) and in the semifinals he won over the Paraguayan Álvaro Frutos (6-2, 5-7 and 6-4).
The grand final was against the main favorite, the Paraguayan Álex Núñez, whom he defeated by two sets to zero with partial scores of 7-6 (0) and 6-1.
In the doubles category, Lora was paired with the Paraguayan Núñez and they surpassed each round until they were champions.
They were the first sown. In the first phase they beat the Peruvians Josué Ayerbe and Rodrigo Varillas (6-2 and 6-3), in the quarterfinals they eliminated the Bolivian Oliver Solís and the Guatemalan Harold Cotom (a double 6-1), while in the “semi-finals” they left in the way to the third favorites, the Peruvian Vicente Monge and the Paraguayan Cayo Narvaez: 7-6 (3) and 6-3.
