The Bolivian pilot Julio Palacios lost his life when he crashed in a helicopter in Chile. The Bolivian was together with a Chilean mechanic carrying out work to combat the forest fire in Galvarino, province of Cautín, in the neighboring country.
The helicopter piloted by Palacios was part of emergency equipment of the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) and his companion was Isaac Espinoza, a Chilean national, who also lost his life when the aircraft capsized.
The accident was recorded around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3or, in the Galvarino commune, Cautín province, La Araucanía Region (Chile), according to the Ministry of Agriculture of the neighboring country.
“As the Ministry of Agriculture and CONAF we extend our condolences to the family of both people; both will become part of a sad legacy of martyrs of the Corporation, who have given their lives for protect the environmental heritage and the lives of all Chilean men and women”, says part of the official statement of the Chilean Government.
While the Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, said that will investigate the causes of the accident that caused the death of the Bolivian pilot and the Chilean mechanic who were fighting the fires.
“We have the information, and we have to investigate the causes of the capotaje, of a helicopter whose pilot was a Bolivian expert of many years of experience in aeronautics and firefighting”, said the Chilean minister.
