A group of 66 Bolivian trucks and 77 private vehicles were able to return to their country this Sunday morning, after having been stranded in Peruvian territory, since last January 4, due to the protests. However, a remaining group of more than 700 Bolivian trucks still continues in the Puno district of Desaguadero, waiting for them to cross the border as well.
Peru 21 revealed, this Monday, that a group of 800 Bolivian trucks were held hostage by the protesters. Since January 4, carriers were stranded in the Huacullani district of Puno, and two weeks ago they were able to advance, with requests and offering soft drinks, to the binational district of Desaguadero, where the border bridge that leads to Bolivia is located.
The Vice Minister of Foreign Trade of Bolivia, Benjamín Blanco, informed this Monday, in a press conference held in La Paz, that thanks to the negotiations with authorities and citizens who maintain the blockade of roads in Peru “a temporary truce was achieved for the passage of vehicles to Bolivian territory, free of fines and tolls”.
He assured that thanks to the work carried out by Bolivian consuls in Peru, it was possible that, through a resolution issued by the government of Dina Boluarte, carriers who had their transit visas expired were exonerated from all fines.
