The coach of the Paraguayan soccer team, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, said this Friday that he will seek to build a “strong and solid” team for the 2024 Copa América and the 2026 World Cup.
With no options to go to Qatar, the coach announced in a press conference to his squad for the last two dates of the qualifiers, that Paraguay will play at home on March 24 against Ecuador and on the 29th as a visitor to Peru.
“We have to build a strong and solid team,” said Barros Schelotto, who outlined as “main objectives” the Copa América that will be played in 2024 in Ecuador and the World Cup that will be hosted, two years later, by Canada, the United States and Mexico.
He assured that, from the match against the Ecuadorian team, “the Paraguayan National Team begins to be built.”
La Abirroja will host Ecuador at the Antonio Aranda stadium in Ciudad del Este. The Paraguayan eleven will later collide with Peru at the National Stadium in Lima, in which it will be their farewell to the qualifying rounds.
And as part of his plan to put the Guaraní team “on its feet”, Barros Schelotto anticipated that between now and December they will play seven friendlies, which he said “are almost all fixed”.
He did not specify further details about the friendlies at the moment.
This Friday, the Paraguayan coach included local Luis Zárate and Marcos Gómez, from Olimpia, as well as Josué Colman, from Guaraní, as novelties in his list of 27 summoned.
Already on March 11, he had announced midfielder Matías Galarza, from the Brazilian Vasco Da Gama, among his chosen ones.
Referents of the team remain in the call, such as the defender Gustavo Gómez, from the Brazilian Palmeiras, and the midfielder Miguel Almirón, from the English Newcastle.
Valencia defender Omar Alderete is the only representative of the Spanish League.
