President gabriel boric He maintained on Wednesday that Bolivia is not carrying out the redirection of migrants who enter the country through the Colchane border. In this regard, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, Freddy Momanirejected the President’s statements and said that his country is not obliged to carry out this procedure, pointing out that it is part of the “Chilean regulations.”
Specifically, President Boric said from Colchane, Tarapacá Region, that Bolivia “is not carrying out the redirection of Venezuelan and Colombian citizens who enter through the Colchane border and who are not received by the place where they enter, and that we have to fix it.”

In turn, he pointed out that he mandated the new chancellor, alberto van klaveren“to strengthen talks with our neighboring countries, particularly with Bolivia, with whom we have not had diplomatic relations since 1978.”
Bolivia’s response
Vice Minister Mamani said in a statement that “regarding the fact that Bolivia is not carrying out the reinstatement of citizens from other countries, understanding this as an expulsion from Chilean territory, there is no bilateral agreement, agreement or instrument that generates said obligation.”
“The renewal procedure referred to by President Boric is Chilean law that does not generate any type of international obligation.”
In turn, he pointed out that “in relation to the issue of irregular migration, Bolivia’s position has been and is that these issues must be addressed with the authorities of the nationalities of the migration of origin, avoiding the negative stigmatization of the migrant and any action that may violate human rights”.
Finally, he said that the Bolivian government “is always willing to engage in bilateral dialogue to address issues of common interest, even more so with neighboring countries.”
