The country is in an epidemic situation due to acute respiratory infections (ARIs).), reported this Monday Jeyson Auza, Minister of Health and Sports.
“If we analyze the epidemiological data, we could say that we are in an epidemic of acute respiratory infections,” Auza confirmed at a press conference.
The authority specified that six of the nine departments of the country (La Paz, Oruro, Potosí, Cochabamba, Pando and Beni) are in this situation.
“If we evaluate the first 15 weeks of 2022 and compare them with the 15 weeks of 2023, (we can establish) that we have already exceeded the number of cases,” he said.
That is, according to official records of the Ministry of Health, until week 15 of 2023 1,038,262 respiratory infections have already been registeredwhich far exceeds the 850,953 cases reported in a similar period of analysis in 2022.
In addition, only “in epidemiological week 15 of ARIs there is a 23.2% increase in cases in relation to week 14,” explained Auza.
However, he indicated that, in temperature changes, the increase in this type of disease is foreseeable.
“But we must do a constant, daily, weekly and monthly evaluation of what happens; In this sense, we have called a meeting for this Thursday for all the directors of the Departmental Health Services (Headquarters) in the country, ”he announced.
The authority indicated that the meeting was called to carry out an evaluation of what is happening in order to “see how the established strategy will be optimized.”
“It is going to be a very important meeting, we will take all the necessary forecasts (because) we are not entering winter yet and we must prepare from now on,” he said.
