An inter-institutional delegation, led by the Vice Minister of Civil Defense, Juan Carlos Calvimontes, traveled this Monday, August 26, to Corumbá, Brazil, to participate in a binational meeting with the aim of coordinating joint efforts in the fight against forest fires affecting the border between both countries.
Calvimontes explained that at the meeting, It will take place this Monday morning The situation of the fires in the border region will be analyzed and joint operations between Bolivia and Brazil will be planned.
“Our operational capacity will be reviewed and, from there, “Joint work will be defined to control the fires on the border,” said the vice minister before boarding the Bolivian Air Force (FAB) flight bound for Corumbá.
The Bolivian delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Government, the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Ministry of Defense, Sernap, the Forestry Directorate, and a technical team from the Government of Santa Cruz.
Defense Minister Edmundo Novillo previously announced that the meeting seeks to coordinate joint actions to confront the forest fires that have affected both Bolivia and Brazil in recent weeks. He also noted that a meeting has been established contact with other countries, such as Chile, Peru, France and China, to join the fight against these fires.
In Bolivian territory, attention is focused on the Integrated Management Natural Area (ANMI) San Matiasin the department of Santa Cruz, and in other areas near the border with Brazil.
