Bolivia obtained two silver medals and one bronze in the Standard modality of the South American Youth Chess Festival that took place in Colonia, Uruguay.
After seven days of competition in the Uruguayan country, the national delegation, made up of 20 thinkers, managed to enter the podium in three different categories.
The silver medals were won by María José Gallardo (Under-8) and Abiel Ticlla (Under-6), while the bronze was won by Diego Yucra (Under-16).
The tournament, which took place at the Rowling Club Colonia del Sacramento, had several categories enabled: Under-6, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18, both in ladies as in men.
The Standard mode was played in nine rounds of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move.
Thus, Gallardo achieved second place in Sub-8 by adding seven of nine possible points and Ticlla was silver in Sub-6 with the 7.5 units she achieved.
Yucra added 6.5 points in the nine games he played and took third place in the U-16.
There was also another national chess player who stood out: Camila Villalta for fourth place in Sub-8 with 5.5 points.
There were two other types of competition in the South American Festival: Blitz and Rapids, in which Bolivia achieved a total of five gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
The gold medals in Blitz were achieved by Maveric Mayta (in U-18), Gallardo (U-8) and Ticlla (U-6). The bronze medal was won by Benjamín Maquera in Sub-8.
While, in the Rapids, the gold went to Thiago Arteaga and Gallardo (both in Sub-8), while the silver went to Mayta in Sub-18.ç
