Between January 1 and 12, there were at least six arrests for political reasons in the state of Bolívar. To date, Foro Penal has 83 detainees throughout the country.

At least six arrests were recorded in Bolívar between January 1 and 12, being the fourth state with the most captured for political reasons so far this year, confirmed the NGO Foro Penal. There are 83 political prisoners throughout the country.

The arrests in Bolívar correspond to the councilor of Angostura del Orinoco, Jeremy Santamaría; the leaders of Vente Venezuela, Jesús Ramírez, Carlos Martínez and José Cipriano Díaz; and the workers Juan Valor (Sidor) and Romel Zabala (Bauxilum), the latter also a member of Vente Bolívar.
The state with the most arrests is Zulia with 18, followed by Trujillo (14), Distrito Capital (10), Bolívar (6) and Portuguesa and Yaracuy also with six arrests. The majority of the arrests (46) occurred on January 9, in the context of the call made by the opposition political leader, María Corina Machado.

The most common of these arrests are forced disappearances, due to the fact that to date his place of confinement is unknown and he has not been allowed communication with family members or private lawyers.
According to Correo del Caroní’s own data, based on reports from State security agencies and complaints from relatives, since July 29, there have been at least 71 arrests for political reasons in the entity. There is no precision as to how many of these people have been released to date.
