Bogotá Mayor’s Office will hold roundtable discussions with taxi drivers this Wednesday, following the strike

Since the early hours of Tuesday, July 23, a day of protests called by the taxi drivers’ union has been underway in several cities across the country, a situation that has generated significant impacts on mobility.

In the case of Bogotá, according to reports from the authorities, damage was recorded in:

– Carrera 68D with Av. Centenario NS

– 80th Street with 119th Avenue, West-East.

– Boyacá Avenue with 36th South Street.

– 3rd Street with 36th Avenue, Ori-Occ.

Earlier there were blockades at the entrances to the city such as the Northern Highway, 80th Street, 13th Street and Soacha.

Regarding the protest, the mayor of Bogotá said that the city “cannot be blocked every time taxi drivers decide to protest.”

“The police and traffic authorities have been instructed to lift the blockades in compliance with all protocols and, in the event of any act of vandalism or violence, we are ready to respond forcefully within the framework of the law.”the president assured on social network X.

Galán stressed that the Mayor’s Office respects the protest as long as it does not violate “the rights of millions of people heading to work or school,” as is happening this Tuesday due to the taxi strike.

“Our duty is to guarantee the rights of all citizens, both those who demonstrate and those who choose not to. We will not accept vandalism, blocking of mobility or the public transport system. Anyone who engages in these behaviors will be punished,” added Galan.

Taxi drivers have called for a strike to express their dissatisfaction with private drivers and motorcyclists who provide transportation services through applications and the rise in fuel prices, among other issues.

Finally, at around 5:00 pm, the district administration announced that the strike had been lifted, after holding talks with the taxi drivers. These will take place on Wednesday, July 24, according to the mayor.

“Tomorrow there will be a day of dialogue between the taxi union and the District Government, headed by the secretariats of Mobility, Security and Government.“, said Carlos Fernando Galan.
