Bogotá Council approved 2026 budget for $40.4 billion, it will go to the mayor's sanction

Council approves budget for 2026 in Bogotá, prioritizing social investment, security and mobility.

He Bogotá Council approved this Tuesday, December 9, the budget proposed by the mayor, Carlos Fernando Galan. The plenary gave the green light to an amount of $40.4 billion which will be executed during 2026, with priority in security, health, education and mobility.

According to the District, the $40.4 billion will be distributed as follows:

Investment: $32.5 billion

Operation: $5.3 billion

Debt Service: $2.6 billion

This distribution follows the guidelines of the District Development Plan 2024-2027which prioritizes allocating around 80.6% of resources to social policy, infrastructure and security in the capital.

The District Administration highlighted the austerity measures implemented:

“Operating expenses will only increase 1.1%which reflects the austerity, fiscal discipline and efficiency measures promoted by the current administration,” said the Mayor’s Office.

Projections and Final Procedure

The approval of the budget is based on economic projections that indicate that Bogotá’s GDP will grow by 3.4% in 2026, accompanied by an increase in 8.2% in tax revenues.

The proposal was approved in plenary by the 45 councilorsbased on a positive presentation that incorporated some modifications to the initial project.

The Secretary of the Government of Bogotá, Gustavo Quinterocelebrated the decision: “Once again, political dialogue and the search for consensus allow us to move forward in firm steps to build the future of Bogotá.”

With the approval of the Council, the budget will go to the signature and sanction of the mayor Carlos Fernando Galan to take effect on January 1, 2026.
