The first edition of the “Gran Fondo de Ciclismo de Bogotá” ended successfully this Sunday. The event brought together 5,000 cyclists, including emblematic figures of Colombian sports such as Rigoberto Urán, Nairo Quintana,Egan Bernal and Mariana Pajón.
The competition, which toured some of the most emblematic points of the city, was organized, according to the Mayor’s Office, with the aim of highlighting Bogotá as a world leader in the use of bicycles.
The route included two main routes: a long distance of 115 kilometers and a medium distance of 60 kilometers, passing through nine towns: Suba, Usaquén, Engativá, Fontibón, Chapinero, Teusaquillo, La Candelaria, Mártires and Santa Fe. Galán also stressed the importance of supporting this type of initiatives, given the legacy of cycling in Colombia and its roots in the Bogotá identity. Despite the achievements, the competition was not without drawbacks. During the morning, some citizens reported mobility problems in the areas affected by the road closures.
However, the Ministry of Mobility reported that these difficulties were quickly overcome and traffic returned to normal at noon.
“The realization of the Gran Fondo not only highlights the sporting potential of the city, but also its advances in infrastructure and cycling culture. With a network of cycle routes in constant expansion, a cycle path that is about to celebrate half a century of existence and the promotion of intermodal transport“said Galan.

“The event also celebrated the connection between sports practice and the unique characteristics of the city, such as emblematic routes to Alto de Patios, Alto del Vino and La Sabana, which have turned Bogotá into a privileged destination for cyclists,” the mayor concluded.
