Bogotá, Caldas and Antioquia, the most internationalized areas of the country

Bogotá, Caldas, Antioquia, Risaralda, Atlántico and Bolívar they are the territorial entities most inserted in global value chains. This was stated in the first edition of the Departmental Internationalization Index (IDI), presented by the Ministry of Commerce.

They complete the list of the top 10 with the best performance in internationalization: Quindío, Valle del Cauca, Cundinamarca and Santander.

It is worth noting that the IDI is a product that was born from the recommendations made in August 2021 by the Internationalization Mission.

For the construction of this first Index, whose score ranges between 0 and 10, 0 being the lowest level of internationalization and 10 the highest, 57 variables were taken into account, using the ministries, entities and actors of the national order as sources of information.

The IDI for Bogotá was 5.77; Caldas obtained 4.98; Antioch, 4.83; Risaralda, 4.50; Atlantic, 4.06; and Bolivar, 4.02; which shows that even in the territorial entities that dot there is still a great opportunity for improvement in terms of internationalization.

In the case of Quindío, the score was 3.77; for Valle del Cauca it was 3.76; Cundinamarca had 3.21 and Santander, 3.06.

Santander, which is among the top 10 departments in internationalization, stands out for have started the pilot of the ‘regionalization strategy’ of the Internationalization Mission. This department ranked third in the ranking of the most competitive regions, according to the Private Competitiveness Council, rising three positions compared to 2021.

This measurement will allow each region to monitor and track the efforts it makes in internationalization, it will serve as a tool to define and adjust the internationalization plans of each department and, in addition, it will allow aligning the institutional offer of the national and regional order around the sectors prioritized by each region”, said the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, María Ximena Lombana Villalba.

The territorial entities with the lowest IDI, with their respective scores are: Putumayo (0.83), collided (0.75), Amazon (0.72), vichada (0.69), Caqueta (0.68), Guainia (0.63) and Guaviare (0.26).
