In a message on his social media account X, President Gustavo Petro said this Sunday that the Mayors of Bogotá and Medellín did not accept the offer of a government program that seeks to combat hunger and boost agricultural production among the country’s peasants.

“A call was made for offers of plots for the PAS, which are modular structures so that people can find cheap food directly from the fields, and restaurants with free hot food in the fight against hunger. Imagine that the municipalities did not register any plots: Bogotá and Medellín. I ask the poor communities in Medellín and Bogotá to find plots to make the PAS against hunger.”wrote the head of state.

Imagine that mayors did not register…

Minutes after the publication, the director of the Department of Social Prosperity (DPS), Gustavo Bolívar, referred to the issue and said that although he and his team communicated with these Mayors, none of them made the registration.
“That’s how it was, Mr. President. Even though I personally called the mayor of Medellín and our teams contacted teams from the mayor of Bogotá. They deprive the poorest people of well-being due to ideological disputes. Gentlemen, the needs of the people have no political color.”wrote Gustavo Bolívar.

In another message, the DPS Director said that “Otherwise, there were mayors who were aware of the process the whole time and called me personally, like the mayors of Barranquilla, Neiva, Valledupar, Tunja, etc. When will some people understand that the well-being of the people is above political pettiness?”.
According to the Government’s plan, Each Solidarity Supply Point, PAS, includes a dining room, a community kitchen and a free welfare distribution point.
It also includes up to forty market sales sites, commercial premises, as well as a collection center and a loading and unloading area for products.
(Besides: ‘ISA on high alert’: questions over the appointment of its new president).
The first call is aimed at 197 municipalities: 170 PDET and another 27 that are capital cities and districts of the country.
