China rejected the sending of new airplanes from Boeing After the implementation of additional 145% tariffs by Donald Trump On Chinese imports to the United States, Kelly Ortberg, president of the American giant, said Wednesday.
Ortberg declared to the CNBC chain that China “stopped receiving shipments because of the tariff context”, days after press reports realized that the Beijing government ordered Chinese airlines not to incorporate new aircraft made by Boeing.
Boeing is the largest American exporter in terms of amounts.
“We had three planes in China that were ready to be delivered and I think two returned” to the United States, but also “we are returning the third,” Ortberg explained.
According to the Executive, Boeing planned to deliver “about 50” aircraft in China this year.
“Therefore, we will be quite pragmatic about what we will do with the planes that were not yet manufactured,” said Ortberg, who evoked the possibility of “reorienting” the devices already finished towards other airlines.
“There are many clients who are looking for (737) Max,” he said, in reference to the best -selling models by Boeing.
“We will not wait long. I will not let this derail the recovery of the company,” Ortberg said.
Boeing already had closed the sale of 130 aircraft to Chinese clients between air and leasing companies. But as some buyers prefer not to appear on the firm’s website, the number could be higher.
