The Legal Medical Institute (IML) confirmed that the body found this Tuesday (6) by firefighters, in Copacabana (post 3), is that of Luiz Gabriel de Souza Silva, aged 14.
In a note to Brazil Agency, the IML says that the teenager’s body was “released and awaiting removal by family members.”
Luiz Gabriel had disappeared on the morning of December 31st, when he was hit by a wave in the surf while playing on the beach. That day, the sea at Copacabana was rough, with an undertow, and the waves reached 2.5 meters.
The teenager was from Campinas (SP) and was with family on the beach.
