MIAMI, United States.- Several of the rafters missing cubans on the coast of Sagua la Grande on August 28, they were found lifeless in Cayo Esquivel, northwest of Villa Clara, according to several family members and friends on social networks.

According to the information, of the six missing rafters, the bodies of Yuliet, the only woman traveling in the group and mother of two children, and a young man named Cristian were found.

A user named Enel Pablo, a worker at the Empresa Eléctrica de Sagua and a friend of Yuliet, wrote on the Facebook social network this Friday: “On a day like today, the few hopes and faith that I could have left have just fallen away, my friend She turned up alive, after so much that I’m sure she fought from the hour the boat began to take in water and she made the call to the coast guard.”

For his part, another Cuban expressed his gratitude on his behalf and that of the family for so many days of prayers waiting for them to appear.

“A thousand thanks to everyone from me and from the whole family, a very painful news, after so many days of prayers and despair, anguish and the worst thing in the world, God, why do you take away special people and not you take those who are hurting us,” he wrote.

The Cuban Ministry of the Interior reported on August 28 in an Informative Note that Border Guard Troops were searching for the group after receiving an emergency call from one of the rafters, presumably Yuliet.

“At 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, through an emergency call made by a group of citizens aboard a boat near the coast of Sagua la Grande, where they stated that they were in conditions that endangered their integrity, Immediately carry out an initial search by the Border Guard Troops with their naval means, ”explained the publication.

The rescue operation was suspended on Sunday due to the night and bad weather conditions, but on Monday the actions to locate the migrants were restarted, “with the use of naval means of fishing and the Border Guard Troops, in addition to of the air support of the Revolutionary Armed Forces”.

Arazay Saavedra, cousin of one of the disappeared Cuban rafters, assured CubaNet this week that they had not stopped looking for them, and that for the operations they had even brought divers from Santa Clara.

“The last we heard from them was a call they made shortly after setting sail saying the ship was sinking and they were going to drown,” Saavedra said.

Every week, dozens of Cuban rafters flee the island with the aim of reaching the shores of the United States. Some achieve their mission, others are intercepted by agents of the United States Coast Guard and then deported to the Island, and many have perished at sea before reaching land.

Cuba is experiencing a massive exodus that has surpassed the Mariel crisis and the rafters’ crisis of 1994. Since October 1, 2021, the beginning of the current fiscal year, only the crews of the US Coast Guard travel by sea. They have intercepted 4,614 Cubans, a figure that exceeds the number of migrants from the island intercepted each fiscal year from 2017 to 2021.
