Last June, the highest body of Argentine soccer, Claudio Tapia, signed a four-year agreement with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) that contemplated the organization of the Argentine Super Cup in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
This match will bring together the last two Argentine champions: Boca, winner of the Argentine League in October, and Racing, winner of the Champions Trophy in November.
The Board of Trustees, current champion of the Argentine Cup and, consequently, Boca’s hypothetical rival in a Super Cup final, was finally left out of the Emirati event.
An agreement beyond the party
In addition to the classic between Boca and Racing, the teams and players of both teams “will interact with the local community and promote football and the sports lifestyle” in Abu Dhabi, in order to strengthen relations between the AFA and the ADSC, according to the statement.
“It is important to continue extending the reach of our Argentine clubs to a great destination like Abu Dhabi and we hope to continue consolidating soccer exchanges with the leadership of the ADSC. This event is a great step to continue reinforcing the position of Argentine soccer at a global level”, assured the president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia.
The AFA has already put tickets for the Super Cup final on sale, with prices ranging between 7 and 98 US dollars.
The last precedent, very hot
The last clash between Boca and Racing, corresponding to the final of the Champions Trophy (1-2), was one of the most tense in memory between the two clubs. The referee expelled seven players from the ‘xeneizes’ and another three from the Academy, in a match that ended two minutes before regulation time.
After that result, the history of the 17 clashes between Boca and Racing was left with nine wins for the ‘xeneizes’ and eight for the Avellaneda Academy.
Beyond the direct elimination matches, in the general history Boca has 22 more wins than Racing: 92 wins for the ‘xeneizes’, 70 for the Academy and 50 draws in a total of 211 official matches.
