Within the framework of strategic operations developed on the coasts of Cabo Rojo, Pedernales, and in the vicinity of Los Coquitos, Pepillo Salcedo municipality, Montecristi, the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD) continues to strengthen maritime surveillance and the protection of natural resources in waters under national jurisdiction.
During these operations, artisanal vessels used in unreported and unregulated fishing activities were intercepted. In Cabo Rojo, a boat powered by a 15 horsepower Yamaha outboard motor was detected, while in Montecristi the intervention took place near the Varadero de Elías.
As a result, six Haitian citizens, in an irregular immigration situation, were detained and handed over to the General Directorate of Immigration for the corresponding legal procedures.
The confiscated vessels are in custody in the Port Captaincies of Cabo Rojo and Manzanillo, as part of the actions aimed at safeguarding maritime resources and reinforcing security on the Dominican coasts.
The Navy of the Dominican Republic reaffirms its commitment to guarantee maritime surveillance and control, preserving natural resources and complying with national and international regulations that regulate activities in territorial waters, in full alignment with the guidelines of the Ministry of Defense. With these actions, the institution strengthens its mission to protect the nation’s maritime heritage and guarantee order on the maritime borders.
