The Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidom) reported this Thursday that it foresees for this weekend the departure of the first shipment with copper after the accident recorded last August, in which two miners were trapped in the mine located in Maimón.
“We have another shipment of zinc ore”said Jonathan Ruiz, operations manager of the mining company, within the framework of a thematic breakfast at the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD).
Asked about the status of production at the mine, Ruiz stated that after the accident at Gregory Alexander Mendez Torres Y Carlos Yepez Ospina “We are below what we had, but it has been compensated with the quality of the product.”
In this sense, the vice president of the mining company, elizabeth mena, who pointed out: “We have a mine that is under development. What we are doing is some development tunnels, we are predicting and seeing that there is ore. We are extracting that ore and working on it”.
Mena indicated that the mining company expects that by 2024 its operations will be fully developed.
During the event, the executive of the mining company stated: “The mining sector has become a transcendental entity that impacts the national economy. And from Cormidom We are committed to playing that role of promoting the development of the Dominican Republic.”
reopening of the mine
In early October, the Ministry of Energy and mines authorized the reopening of the operations of the Dominican Mining Corporation, on the condition that the mining company complies with a series of measures to decrease risk of accidents in the company.
The conditions required by the authorities include the review of all tunnels and that the mining company guarantees that all the profiles of the tunnels are within the design of the mine, located in Maimón.
