The Board of Supreme Prosecutors (JFS) decided this Wednesday that the new prosecutor of the nation will be elected next year, after the disqualification of Delia Espinoza for 10 years, who had assumed office in 2024.
The acting national prosecutor, Tomás Gálvez, called the JFS to an ordinary session for this morning to address this issue, but also decide on the incorporation of Luis Arce Córdova as the titular supreme prosecutor. However, at the end of the private session, the decision was made to elect the head of the Public Ministry in 2026.
As recalled, on December 3, the National Board of Justice qualified Arce as supreme prosecutor, after the Judiciary declared two amparos founded that annulled his dismissals for alleged irregularities when he was part of the National Election Jury.
Those summoned to the session were the supreme prosecutors Pablo Sánchez, Zoraida Ávalos, Patricia Benavides, Juan Carlos Villena and Tomás Gálvez.
The Congress of the Republic approved the disqualification of the Prosecutor of the Nation, Delia Espinoza, on December 3, 2025. The sanction, which extends for ten years, was supported by 71 votes in favor, 17 against and 3 abstentions, after a first vote did not reach the required majority.
With this decision, Espinoza is prevented from holding any public office until 2035 and opens the possibility of facing criminal proceedings for alleged crimes such as abuse of authority, usurpation of functions and generic falsehood.
