The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) launched a public notice inviting the private sector to participate in the machfunding aimed at financing basic sanitation works in 460 schools in 16 municipalities on Ilha de Marajó.
By modality machfunding, the bank will donate R$1 for every R$1 from the private sector. In total, R$ 40 million should be invested in the initiative. The information comes from the BNDES’ productive and socio-environmental credit director, Bruno Aranha, an interviewee for the program The Voice of Brazil this Wednesday (4): “This is a pilot that will generate a good experience that can be extended, above all, to the Northern Region of Brazil”.
Another BNDES project, this time in partnership with Fundação Banco do Brasil, will take cisterns to more than two thousand schools in the Northeast Region. Each institution will invest R$ 20 million.
“Our intention is to bring in the private sector so that it can donate another R$ 16 million and, with that, the 3,000 schools that do not have water in the Northeast will have it”, said Aranha.
Another R$ 160 million will be donated through the Socio-environmental Fund in partnership with the private sector. The money will be used to improve the quality of basic public education in Brazil. “What we plan is always to work together with the private sector in these projects”, said the BNDES director.
States and municipalities can present projects to improve the quality of education, teacher training, school infrastructure and basic material. In the project, the private partner that will invest together with the BNDES must be identified.
The BNDES director also spoke about connected education and the bioeconomy in the Amazon.
