The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will assist Rio Grande do Sul in planning actions to prevent disasters and impacts on the population in cases of extreme weather events. The state, that faced floods Classified as the largest climate catastrophe in the history of the region, it now suffers from intense heat.
This Friday (7), the BNDES and the State Government of Rio Grande do Sul signed a technical cooperation agreement to structure a strategic medium and long-term climate resilience plan that protects the state against extreme climate.
Under the agreement, BNDES will plan the Resilience, Innovation and Works for the Future of Rio Grande do Sul (Rios) project, which aims to define the state strategy of climate resilience of the Guaíba River watershed. The work includes conducting technical studies for climate adaptation and risk management projects.
The Bank and the State Government also signed an additive term to an existing contract to develop the draft of the State Center for Integrated Risk and Disaster Management and the State Humanitarian Logistics Center of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as actions of social housing.
The additive provides that BNDES will provide technical support in the elaboration of the engineering and architecture draft to enable the bidding process of these centers, which will be conducted by the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
In the area of social housing, it is planned to redirect the use of the Othelo Rosa building, to serve from housing to low -income families. The venture, in the center of Porto Alegre, has 14 floors and estimated capacity of 240 estimated housing units, with one and two bedrooms.
According to BNDES, in 2024, the Bank made available R $ 25.7 billion for the economic and social recovery of the state hit by floods.
