BNDES will finance sanitation and mobility projects with FGTS

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will have up to R$12 billion from the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) to finance environmental sanitation and urban mobility projects. The authorization from Caixa Econômica Federal, which is the operating agent of the FGTS, for BNDES to act as the Fund’s financial agent, was announced this Wednesday (30). BNDES will have credit worth up to R$6 billion to finance works and services included in the modalities provided for in the Saneamento para Todos program. Another R$6 billion will be used to finance the execution of works, services and the acquisition of public transport vehicles included in the modalities provided for in the Pró-Transporte program.

The resources will be allocated upon presentation of credit operations selected by the Ministry of Cities, manager of the FGTS application, according to budget availability.

“This partnership marks a new level in the relationship between BNDES and Caixa, two public banks that are fundamental to the country’s growth with the generation of jobs and income. Together, we will contribute even more to public sanitation and urban mobility policies, working towards the sustainable development of the country”, noted the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante.

Protocol of intent

The two banks also signed a protocol of intentions to coordinate efforts to strengthen the federal government programs Nova Indústria Brasil (NIB), Novo PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) and the Ecological Transformation Plan (PTE).

“The partnership brings together the expertise of the two public banks in the field of popular housing, urban mobility and sanitation, in favor of the population that needs it most”, highlights the president of Caixa, Carlos Vieira.

The partnership also proposes actions to expand credit to family farmers, MEIs and micro, small and medium-sized companies, especially in the Northeast and the Amazon, contributing to COP 30, in Belém (PA).
