For the first time, credit operations from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for industry have surpassed agribusiness since 2016. BNDES approvals for industry represented 27% of the bank’s total credit in the year to September . The volume of credit approved for agriculture represented 26% of the BNDES total for the year.
Until September, the bank approved R$154 billion for Nova Indústria Brasil. In innovation projects alone there were R$9 billion, the highest amount ever recorded by the institution to date.
“There has been a change in the quality of Brazil’s growth, led by industry and investments. We have a great collective challenge to continue with these very promising indicators, which reveal confidence in investment and in the expansion of productive capacity, as a result of favorable macroeconomic conditions and initiatives such as Nova Indústria Brasil, which has been largely responsible for contributing for the development of a digital, green and exporting industry”, stated the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante.

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released, on Friday (1st), data from the Monthly Industrial Survey – Physical Production (PIM-PF) for September. The numbers reveal an increase of 1.1% compared to the previous month, with emphasis on the 4.2% increase in the manufacturing of capital goods. The previous day, the drop in the unemployment rate to 6.4% in the quarter from July to September had also been announced, the second lowest unemployment rate in the historical series of IBGE’s Continuous PNAD, which began in 2012. The research showed that the increase of employment in the quarter was driven by the 3.2% growth in industrial employment.
