The CEO and president of BMW Latin America, Reiner Braun, said that the BMW plant in San Luis Potosí exports to everyone, specifically to 80 countries; while shipments to the United States are barely 40 percent.
He explained that the BMW group plant in Spartanburg, United States, provides 30% of its car production to Latin America, including Mexico, which makes a fluid commercial relationship.
BMW invested 800 million dollars at the beginning of 2023 to extend its manufacture in SLP, which already prepares new electrical models.
The German automaker foresees that this year the manufacture of high voltage batteries for electric vehicles at the plant that builds in San Luis Potosí, with the challenge of starting the manufacture of electric cars by 2027 and that in 2030, the assembly is 50% green.
This will make the brand the first lithium battery manufacturer in the country and the first electric car producer.
