The representative of the World Bank in the Dominican Republic assured that “the country is in a good moment to generate more prosperous cities and territories.”

Alexandria Valerio expressed in an act in which the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development participated that “with the accompaniment of the World Bank through our Partnership Framework with the Country, we are supporting the Government’s programs for the construction of safer places , that provide citizens with better services, a better quality of life with dignity, and a better future,” he said.

Valerio spoke at the event in which the World Bank and the MEPyD released the study on urbanization and territorial development: Enabling the way for the development of prosperous cities and territories in the Dominican Republic, research that seeks to provide data on the main challenges territorial issues that the Caribbean country is currently facing, such as: managing public policies, regulating land use and facilitating comprehensive risk management at the national and local levels.

The document, produced under the technical leadership of urban planning and sustainable development specialists from the World Bank, with the financial support of the European Union and the Global Fund for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), focuses on seven fundamental axes: understanding the milestones of urbanization, address territorial disparities at different scales, adopt a new framework for territorial planning, empower local governments, enable an inclusive housing sector, promote the integration of tourism and the territory and as a prominent axis, adapt territorial development instruments in the free zone sector.

The presentation was led by Alexandria Valerio, resident representative for the Dominican Republic, accompanied by the Minister of Economy, Miguel Ceara Hatton, and the Deputy Minister of Territorial Planning and Regional Development, Domingo Matías.
