Shipments abroad blueberries Between January and September 2025, they totaled US$743.2 million, experiencing an increase of 25.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, reported the Agro-Export Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).
According to the Trade Map, in 2024 Peru was the first world exporter with US$ 2,270 million, accumulating 34% of the total and surpassing the Netherlands (12%), Spain (9%), Morocco (8%) and Chile (7%).
In order to maintain this positioning, the export union organized the visit of a Japanese delegation – led by ambassador Tsuyoshi Yamamoto – to the Family Farms farm in Ica and the PROLAN plant in Chincha, where they observed the harvesting, packaging and cold chain management processes.
It should be noted that between January and September 2025, Ica was the third exporting region of this fruit with US$ 56 million 067 thousand, only behind La Libertad and Lambayeque.
The director of the union, Patricio Luzanto, described Japan as an important market for our agricultural products. This berry, in particular, has enormous potential, making it necessary to coordinate work between the health authorities of both countries with the purpose of advancing the phytosanitary protocol that allows its entry.
“Japan requires strict food safety standards, an aspect to be considered by our industry when planning exports to that destination. The signing of an agreement at the government level is required that specifically and formally regulates the possibility of bringing this fruit to that nation,” he said.
For his part, the Japanese ambassador to Peru, Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, considered the blueberry as the symbol of Peruvian agroindustrial strength and highlighted the technical capacity and innovation of companies in the sector.
“In my country it is considered a food with high nutritional content, it is usually consumed at breakfast; however, the varieties we grow are smaller and their flavor is different. Peruvian blueberries have a great opportunity,” he remarked.
During the tour, the management of the different activities was verified, prioritizing efficiency in the use of resources, compliance with due processes, responsible practices and the well-being of workers, all of which guarantees the high standards of quality and safety required abroad.
