Blue and White Monitoring records increased harassment and threats against Catholic Church leaders and opponents

Bishops of Bolivia: Repression against the Church in Nicaragua is an "attack on freedom of expression and religion"

The Blue and White Monitoring, In its weekly report, from September 5 to 11, it reflects 17 incidents related to human rights violations in Nicaragua.

In the report They highlight the constant harassment of the Ortega regime against leaders of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua, the siege against journalists and former political prisoners, and the arrest of an opposition leader.

“The repression against the Catholic Church continues and there have been threats and harassment of priests from Masaya and Granada. Likewise, sieges against journalists and political prisoners were recorded, as well as the arrest of a territorial leader belonging to a political organization,” the document indicates.

The platform denounced that during that period, three violent deaths were reported, including those of two girls in Ciudad Belén, Managua. “One of the defendants had been acquitted by a judge in 2021 for the crime of robbery,” he stressed.

In the week of September 5 to 11, another 100 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) were also stripped of their legal personality because they allegedly failed to comply with their duties and obligations established in the legislation that regulates them, “hindering the control and surveillance of the General Directorate of Registration and Control of Organizations are for Profit of the Ministry of the Interior”.

According to the Blue and White Monitoring with this new wave of cancellation, the number of entities eliminated rises to 1,877.

In addition, the opposition network explained that “it is registering an increase in incidents of territorial or social control, this week the National Council of Universities (CNU) announced that it will control the migratory movements of students and university teaching staff.”

The government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, in an electoral context, has once again heightened political persecutionharassment, repression of opponents and continues to attack the leaders of the Catholic Church.
