Blue and White Monitoring denounces more than 500 human rights violations in the first half of the year

At least 519 human rights violations have been committed by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo against the Nicaraguan people in the first half of this year, according to a report released Tuesday by the organization Blue and White Monitoring.

The agency, which is dedicated to monitoring incidents that affect the lives of Nicaraguans under the police state imposed by the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship, points out that the repressive agents of the regime perpetrated arbitrary detentions, harassed opponents and immigration violations

The most difficult months for opponents within the country were April, with 218 incidents related to human rights violations; and May, when 160 events were registered.

The blue and white report indicates that, in the first half of 2023, the repressive forces of the dictatorship carried out 146 arbitrary detentions. More than 90 were released after being interrogated or prosecuted and decreed house arrest.

In addition, 114 complaints of harassment of the homes of relatives of political prisoners, opponents and members of the Catholic Church were known. The agency also received 33 complaints of “immigration repression”, that is, people who have been prevented from entering or leaving the country or their right to free movement in the national territory has been violated.

The departments most affected by these events are Managua, Chinandega, Masaya and the two autonomous regions of the Caribbean Coast.
