Blooming continues without adding in the Copa Sudamericana 2023. On Wednesday night, they lost at home against Newell’s Old Boys from Argentina 2-3, in a match corresponding to the fourth date of group E, played at the Tahuichi Aguilera stadium in Santa Cruz.
It was a clash of extremesbecause the Argentines arrived as leaders and the Bolivians as tails of the series and with this result things did not change.
In the first minutes the visiting team tried to take the initiative, even had a dangerous arrival with a shot from Iván Gómez, that had a net destination, but the goalkeeper Braulio Uraezaña avoided the fall of his bow.
The response from the Santa Cruz academy came after 9 minutes with a header from Jonathan Lacerda, which passed close from the left post of Newell’s goal.
At the second opportunity Blooming would not fail, because Rafinha (12′) was attentive to a cross shot from the left of Gastón Rodríguez, who ended up being an excellent assist for the Brazilian to make it 1-0.
The goal forced the Argentine team to come out more, which went in search of the tie and that made the party is more open, because the Bolivian team was also looking for the second goal that would give them peace of mind to ensure victory.
That is why it was not surprising that Newell’s goal arrived, because the Argentines made merits to achieve equality. The author of the goal was the most dangerous man that the visit showed in attack, Iván Gómez (36′), who took a shot from the front line of the large area to beat Braulio Uraezaña.
The meeting remained open both squads were looking for the unevenness with a notorious dominance of those led by Gabriel Heinze, who scored 1-2 through an own goal by Christian Latorre (58′).
Bruno Pittón reached a ball that seemed lost and from an awkward position he caressed the ball with the outside of his left foot and in his eagerness to clear Latorre ended up introducing the ball into his own goal.
The play was analyzed by VAR and after a couple of minutes the Colombian referee Carlos Betancur validated the goal.
It took little time for Newell’s third to arrive, because at minute 66 Armando Méndez made a very good play on the right and sent the delayed pass to appear Jorge Recalde and convert the 1-3, which was lapidary
In the final minutes, the sky-blues shortened the difference with a goal from Leo Fenga (88′)who pushed the ball into the net after Ronald Cuéllar’s cross from the left, but there was no time for more.
With this defeat, the team led by Carlos Bustos does not have the slightest chance of advancing to the phase and their elimination is consummated. He will play his next two games just to comply, against Audax Italiano de Chile, on June 7, in Santa Cruz; and against Santos, on June 29, in Brazil.
Shortly before, by this same group, Audax Italiano beat Santos at home 2-1. With these results, Newell’s continues to lead the series with 12 points, followed by Audax Italiano (7), Santos (4) and Blooming (0).
