Higher education entities reported today (1st) that the blockade of R$ 366 million in the funding of universities and federal institutes has been suspended. Resources had been frozen since Monday (28), when several educational institutions received notices freezing the budget until the end of the year.
The release of funds was informed by the National Association of Directors of Federal Institutions of Higher Education (Andifes) and by the National Council of Institutions of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (Conif).
On social networks, Andifes reported that the decision brought relief, but that the entity “will continue to be attentive to the risks of new cuts and blockages and will maintain dialogue with all the actors necessary for the construction of the budget and policies necessary for the maintenance and fair financing of public higher education”.
The Ministry of Education did not comment on the unblocking or inform if the remaining amount blocked in the folder will be released. Last night (30), the Ministry of Economy disclosed the details of the BRL 5.7 billion cut by ministries, announced last week.
The most affected folders were Health, with R$ 1.435 billion blocked, and Education, with R$ 1.396 billion. Only the Ministries of Economy and Justice and Public Security were spared from the new cuts.
