Coatzacoalcos, Ver., The armed forces will be in charge of the country’s strategic projects to prevent buzzards can be made of them, emphasized President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

We are not going to be working, investing, so that later the buzzards come to take what belongs to the people of Mexico. That is over, we no longer want neoliberal or neo-Porfirian politics. The thing about Mexico belongs to the Mexicansasserted when heading yesterday the supervision of the progress in the modernization of the port of this city, a central piece for the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, which will connect the Gulf with the Pacific.

Only these corporations, he considered, will be able to guarantee the care of this heritage, so that it is not privatized in the future. This is how they will manage, among other projects, the Mayan Train, the Isthmus Corridor, the Felipe Ángeles, Palenque, Tulum and Chetumal airports.

Last February, the López Obrador administration announced the creation of a company belonging to the Ministry of National Defense –the Olmeca Maya Mexica–; and on Saturday, in Salina Cruz, at the other end of the isthmus, he announced that there will be one for the Navy.

“This decision because we don’t want to, I touch plastic as if it were wood –he said while hitting the lectern with his fist–, we don’t want this to happen to private companies, we don’t want privatizations. Who can take care of this heritage of Mexicans? We are going to leave that company to the marines of Mexico. Like the Mayan Train, the AIFA and other projects at Sedena”.

From this historic city, which is in the midst of celebrations for the 500th anniversary of its foundation, and where legend says that many years before Quetzalcoatl embarked promising to return, the President stressed the importance of the country producing what it consumes, particularly in a geopolitical situation framed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In the face of a crisis, what protects is that what we consume is produced. If we are producing gasoline and diesel, if we have electricity and food, we can face any calamity.

He stressed that although his opponents do not like it, he will strive to strengthen the companies fundamental of the State, such as the Federal Commission of Electricity and Petróleos Mexicanos.

Dozens of people came from different neighborhoods to the port facilities, next to the Coatzacoalcos River, and among them was a girl who played with a stuffed animal of the figure of the president. Before them, López Obrador indicated that, in the case of fuels, his government has promoted the oil industry, managing to double national production unlike the neoliberal period, which has allowed the cost of gasoline to be lower in Mexico than in United States despite inflation.

Hours later, after visiting the Minatitlán refinery, neighboring Coatzacoalcos, the president reported on Twitter that 37 billion pesos have been invested in the rehabilitation of the six refineries that existed before his administration.

Previously, in the act, he said that Mexico’s commitment to self-sufficiency in this field is added to the construction of Dos Bocas and the purchase of Deer Park, in Texas.

Relevant for the connection of the isthmus will be the railway line –for cargo and passengers– that will connect the 323 kilometers that separate both ports in this, the narrowest geographical point between the Gulf and the Pacific.

In 1907, President Porfirio Díaz inaugurated the Tehuantepec National Railroad and the Salina Cruz and Puerto México terminals (as Coatzacoalcos was then called). 115 years away, with this project it is intended to resume that route and it is estimated that it will be inaugurated this year.

In the past, Europe concentrated maritime transport, but today It is different, that region (Asia) has already woken up, especially China. And now 70 percent of merchandise arrives through the Pacific and only 30 percent through the Atlantic..

Before, the governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García, highlighted that foreign investment has grown for the entity thanks to the project.
