Next Tuesday, August 27, Blanca Rodríguez, the former host of the news program Subrayado, will officially announce her incorporation into the Frente Amplio. This news was confirmed through Montevideo Portal, after it was announced by Búsqueda and the journalist Gabriel Pereyra.
Rodríguez will join the Frente Amplio as an independent, occupying a prominent place on list 609 for the Senate. The official ceremony will take place at Huella de Seregni, according to political sources. His objective is to maintain his independence within the Frente Amplio.
The political agreement with the Popular Participation Movement (MPP) was carefully negotiated. Although he will occupy a seat on the MPP list, Rodríguez will not formally join the group. His alliance focuses on the political platform led by former president José Mujica.
Blanca Rodríguez concluded her 34-year career at the news show Subrayado with a farewell on August 9. Since then, she has kept a low profile, avoiding comments on social media about her decision to enter party politics.
The presidential candidate of the Frente Amplio, Yamandú Orsi, considers this incorporation as “a luxury.” During a recent visit to Río Branco, Orsi highlighted that Rodríguez will contribute significantly to the sector. He compared her arrival with that of María Inés Obaldía, another journalist who entered politics.
Orsi mentioned that Rodriguez is known for her philosophy and her interest in authors such as Liber Seregni. Although he is not directly involved in the details of her entry, Orsi said that he is not defining integration from his campaign team.
MPP deputy Bettiana Díaz confirmed that the official announcement regarding Rodríguez will be made shortly. In an interview with Radio Universal, Díaz expressed her satisfaction with the addition and stressed the importance of increasing female representation on list 609.
Díaz said that this decision is mainly handled by Pepe Mujica and Lucía Topolansky. She believes that Rodríguez’s incursion will strengthen the MPP, especially with the presence of more women in prominent positions.
Blanca Rodríguez will use this new political platform to run for a seat in the Uruguayan Parliament. Her transition from the journalistic to the political sphere is considered a strategic move that could have a significant impact on the dynamics of the Frente Amplio.
