Blanca Rodríguez: “In some places it is still as difficult today as it was in 1971 to be a member of the Frente Amplio”

“In some places it is still as difficult today as in 71 to be with the Frente Amplio,” he stated, recognizing the difficulties faced by militancy in various regions of the country.

The former communicator pointed out the importance of regaining trust in the Frente Amplio, mentioning: “There is no scare, there is no cuckoo that can make people feel that the Frente Amplio is not a credible tool, because we already did it, because we were there for 15 years in the government, and wow, in those 15 years, rights were achieved.” Rodríguez emphasized the intention for the Frente Amplio to be the main political force, seeking to win the elections in the first round to reach the government again.

In his speech, he also addressed the issue of child poverty and the need to improve educational opportunities for young people. “The main debt we have at this moment is with poor children. Child poverty in our country has a shameful percentage, because children under six years of age are much poorer than the average for the rest of society,” he expressed. When criticizing the ruling party’s proposals, Rodríguez questioned the idea of rewarding those who complete their studies with monetary incentives, stating that “it is not the concept of education that this society had.”

In relation to immigration, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of building a welcoming Uruguay. “If it were not for immigrants we would have negative population numbers,” he indicated, reaffirming his commitment to cultural diversity. “There is room for everyone here, there is plenty of room for everyone. There is room on this earth for everyone who wants to come here to live in peace, to work, to educate their children,” concluded Rodríguez, calling for solidarity and the construction of an inclusive country.
