Mexico City, Mexico.- The Electric Union of Cuba published in its Facebook page that this Sunday, April 2, the service will also be affected and there will be blackouts on the island. Estimated demand is forecast to exceed power generation.

The aforementioned note details that during Sunday peak hours (between 6:00 and 10:00 pm), various electrical circuits in all provinces, with the exception of Havana, must be disconnected from the system to supply the forecast deficit of 230 MW.

The entity calculates that for that time there will be “an availability of 2,460 MW and a maximum demand of 2,620 MW, for a deficit of 160 MW, so that if the expected conditions are maintained, an affectation of 230 MW is forecast.”

Among the causes of the deficit, the UNE points out that unit 3 of the CTE Santa Cruz, unit 5 of the CTE Nuevitas, unit 2 of the CTE Felton and units 3 and 5 of the CTE Felton are currently out of service due to breakdowns. the CTE I rented.

In addition, the CTE Antonio Guiteras, units 3 and 4 of the CTE Cienfuegos and units 4 and 6 of the CTE Renté are under maintenance.

At the end of last month they announced that the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, one of the largest of its kind in Cuba, will resume power generation between May and June 2023.

The Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant suffered numerous breakdowns throughout the past year, which affected the deficit in energy generation in the country. One of his main problems were the failures in the pipes of the high-temperature superheater, which caused the machine to stop on 11 occasions.

According to the director of the UNE, these defects will be solved from the sanitation of the pipes, and it is also expected to solve the problems in the automatic control systems and other technological limitations.
