On November 25, the flagship discount event will take place: the black friday. This commercial event is one of the most important of the year in the internet sales industry and spans almost all categories of international online sales sites.
The proximity of this date with Christmas plays a leading role on these discount dates and that is why toys are one of the most dynamic items, explained references from the couriers that deliver these purchases to Uruguayan homes.
Some platforms like Tiendamía or Gripper They expect to have discounts of between 60% and 80% on some products and also offer, in some cases, free shipping.
The country manager of ecommerce Tiendamía Uruguay, Andrés de Miquelerena, expressed in dialogue with Coffee & Business that this week is one of the most significant for the company and one that requires the most preparation due to the magnitude of sales.
According to the executive, Customs expects an increase in operations of between 80% and 100% for those dates. At the same time, Tiendamía projects active user sessions to triple over the next few days compared to conventional dates. “During the peak hour of a typical day we had 7,000 active people; we hope that by Black Friday that figure will reach 20,000,” added De Miquelerena.
Tiendamía shipments take between 5 to 10 business days. And they cost US$21.99 per kilo if the package weighs between 0.1 and 3 kilos. If the package weighs between 3.1 kilos and 5 kilos, the rate is US$ 15.39 per kilo (30% less).
Within the framework of Black Friday there will be free shipping from that platform.
De Miquelerena also expressed that different discounts will be applied at various times. “In a particular hour you can find, for example, watches for US$4, sunglasses for US$9 or legos for US$2,” he exemplified, adding that there will be offers that can exceed 70%.
According to the executive, the favorite products for Uruguayans are Airpods, in particular, computers, processors, sunglasses, toys —and especially Legos.
“Our objective was to bring the celebration of Black Friday to Uruguay and Latin America, and we have achieved it”, concluded De Miquelerena.
On this platform there are already discounts cataloged as Pre Black Friday, such as a pair of Adidas for men from the Nizza Sneaker line at US$ 40.45 (38% discount); a portable monitor for laptops at $269.99 (25% discount) or an Xbox Core wireless controller at $39.99 (30% discount).
“We are already processing more cargo than normal”said Federico Nogueira, co-founder and CEO of the courier Gripper. “We expect the cargo entering the country to double due to this event,” added the businessman.
Nogueira explained that the current situation, marked by the delay in freight as a result of the coronavirus, the rise in fuel prices and the war in Europe, has led large commercial areas in the United States to begin to offer significant discounts earlier in relation to to the other years.
“Discounts are being offered earlier, due to a bad prediction after the pandemic that caused department stores to will stock a lot and now they need to release the warehouses to renew the merchandise,” he said.
The textile and technology industries They are the pillars of consumption by Uruguayans, said the executive.
The cost of transportation from the United States to Uruguay has a cost of US$ 19.80 for loads ranging from 1 gram to 899 grams. And from 0.9 kilos to 5 kilos they have a charge of US$ 21.90 per kilo. The cost per kilo decreases from the amount that is imported.
Both De Miquelerena and Nogueira agreed that a great incentive on the part of Uruguayan customers, in addition to prices, is the fact that not getting those products in the local marketas can happen with certain brands, models or sizes.
