Officials obtained two flight recorders that were handed over to the Air Accident Investigation Department. The inspection work covered more than 4,000 square meters
The black boxes of the plane that crashed last Wednesday, December 25 in Kazakhstan, where 38 people died, were found at the scene of the tragedy, reported the transport prosecutor of the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan, Abilaibek Ordabaev.
Officials obtained two flight recorders that were handed over to the Air Accident Investigation Department. The inspection work covered more than 4,000 square meters.
A note published by EFE highlighted that the decryption of the black boxes will involve specialists from the Brazilian company Embraer, who will arrive on Friday, December 27 in Kazakhstan. Flight 8432, from Baku, had 67 people on board, and was hit by shrapnel from a surface-to-air missile when it was in the airspace of the Russian city of Grozny, its destination.
Hypotheses that link Russia to the plane crash
According to a note published by Reuters, the hypothesis put forward by authorities is that the accident could have been caused by the work of Russian anti-aircraft defenses to repel an attack by Ukrainian drones in the North Caucasus that coincided with the flight of the Azerbaijani plane.
The Russian government ruled against these hypotheses. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “It would be a mistake to raise any hypothesis before knowing the conclusions of the investigation. We, of course, won’t, and no one should. We must wait for the investigation to conclude,” reported BBC Mundo.
The airline reported that the Embraer 190 plane took off from the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, on Wednesday morning. It was supposed to arrive in Grozny, in Chechnya (Russia), but was diverted due to fog.
