The bishops of Honduras issued a statement of solidarity with the Nicaraguan Church in the face of the campaign of harassment and harassment that the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo has undertaken.
“The bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Honduras (CEH) want to express our solidarity and spiritual closeness with the brothers of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua (CEN) and with all the people of God who pilgrimage in this sister country in these difficult times, in who have been suffering increasing harassment, aggression and various forms of persecution by the current government, presided over by Mr. José Daniel Ortega Saavedra,” the statement indicates in its main part.
In this way, the Catholic hierarchy of Honduras joins the episcopates of Costa Rica and Panama in solidarity with the Nicaraguan Church.

“In prayer and in a spirit of communion (…) we recognize and value the testimony of fidelity and perseverance of the Church that pilgrims in Nicaragua, especially its pastors: bishops and priests”, express the religious leaders of Honduras in the letter dated this May 26.
It should be noted that within the Episcopate of Honduras is Cardinal Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, current Archbishop of Tegucigalpa; and one of the closest collaborators of Pope Francis.
The Honduran bishops close their message by praying to the Virgin Mary, in her invocation of the Immaculate, so that “harmony and dialogue return to the entire Nicaraguan people, overcoming the differences that may compromise peace and brotherhood among all.”
