In the context of the religious festivals of Our Lady of the Angels, patron saint of Costa Rica, Monsignor Mario Enrique Quirosbishop of the Diocese of Cartago, reported that the intentions and prayers during the days of the novena —between July 23 and 31— will be to ask for peace in Nicaragua.
The hierarch told the digital platform Boletín Ecológico that “given the very sensitive situation that the country is going through, prayer and solidarity in spiritual support will be one of the important intentions that we will have in these days of the novena and especially the festivities around to August 2”, the date on which the venerated image is celebrated.

“We know the importance of Our Lady of the Angels, not only for Costa Ricans, but also for all those brothers and sisters who live on our homeland, for example our brothers from Nicaragua,” the prelate stressed.
He added that in the rosary of Light “the intention is to pray for peace in the world, in Central America itself and of course to pray for Nicaragua.”
Regarding the support of the Church of Costa Rica to Nicaraguans, Monsignor Quirós stated that they have received “brothers and nuns” who have entered Costa Rican soil, providing them with humanitarian and migratory support “so that they can later make their decisions accordingly.”
After the intensification of the repression in Nicaragua and especially against the Catholic Church, the expressions of solidarity from other countries and religious institutions is greater every day.
