A little police history
During the US occupation from 1916 to 1924, foreign troops created a military institution called the “National Guard”, a military body that functioned as a defense and police agency, laying the foundations of the current national police.
The National Police Force (as it is to this day) was not officially formed until March 2, 1936 with the congressional approval of Decree No. 1523. When a new national police force emerged, Colonel Miguel A. Román was appointed as Chief of Police.
