Biotechnological centers from Cuba and China work on possible cooperation projects

OnCubaNews

Directors of the Molecular Immunology Center (CIM) of Cuba made a working visit to China with the aim of strengthening cooperation between biotechnology entities and scientific institutions from both countries, announced official media on the island.

Kalet León, deputy director of that Cuban entity, met with representatives of leading biotech companies in the Guangdong province, according to a note of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The meeting was described as fruitful by the Cuban ambassador to China, Carlos Miguel Pereira. It made it possible to identify opportunities for cooperation in the sector.

The director of the CIM also visited the University of Science and Technology (USST) in the city of Shanghai, headquarters of an international joint center and a laboratory on cancer diagnosis, inaugurated in December last year as part of a framework agreement for collaboration signed by this center of higher studies with the University of Havana.

At the meeting, potentialities for new exchanges were explored, and existing joint projects were analyzed, the Consulate General of Cuba in Shanghai indicated on Twitter.

The Cuban delegation, also made up of the head of the Biocubafarma Representation Office in Beijing, Zulaine Guerra, was received by the vice president of the USST, Cai Yonglian.

In November 2022, as part of President Miguel Díaz-Canel’s visit to China, the two nations signed a total of 12 cooperation agreements in various areas, including science.
