Bioming: what is it and how does this system available in the country's airports work?

Bioming is a system designed by Migration of Colombia to speed up the process of entering and leaving the country, allowing both Colombian and foreign citizens to carry out their procedures in just a few minutes. The particularity of this platform is that it uses iris recognition technology to verify the identity of travelers. How is registration carried out and how does it work at airports?

According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “Bioming stores the citizen’s biometric information with prior authorization: names, surnames, identity or travel document. The objective is to verify that the registered person (enrolled) is the same person who enters and leaves the national territory.”

On the other hand, it is clarified that only “It is enabled for Colombians over 12 years of age who have previously registered, for a single time, at the points enabled for this purpose.”

According to official information, in order to access this service you must:

1. Approach the enabled hallway and read the touch screen that is located in the hallway.

2. The system displays three buttons on the screen corresponding to the following languages: Spanish, English and French. Select the language of your preference.

3. The system displays the screen content in the selected language. By default, the language loaded is Spanish.

4. At the end of the system screen the message is displayed, locate your travel document in the reader.

5. If the data captured is valid and the type of document is authorized, the system performs an internal search and loads a new screen with the traveler’s identification number and photograph.

6. The system displays the question: Are you the person on the screen? And the two buttons NO (red) and YES (green).

7. If you select YES, the system will show you information about the flight number and the airline.
Remember that you must have previously filled out the Check-Mig form. If you have not done so, you must indicate the flight number and the corresponding airline. If the information entered in Check -Mig does not correspond, you can edit it.

8. Next, the system will ask you to indicate the reason for your trip, whether you are entering or leaving Colombia.

9. You must bring your eyes closer to the iris reader in order to verify the information previously stored in the enrollment process.

10. To use Biomig you must remove glasses (glasses or contact lenses), hats and caps.
